Traditional skills: maintenance and repair

We have a programme of work to repair and maintain the boats and improve their sailing qualities. Members have learnt all kinds of traditional skills including:

shaping wood for a new yard
steam bending planks for a new top strake
caulking seams using sheep’s wool and tar
all kinds of knotting and splicing for the rigging

We hope to develop the skills to build a boat from scratch one day.
