The Dortor

All the monks slept together in the dortor (or dormitory). Each had a pillow and a blanket, but not necessarily a mattress. The younger monks were placed between the older ones. There was little furniture in the dormitory, the monks did not need it for they had few clothes and no other possessions of their own. The walls were bare, except perhaps for a crucifix hanging at one end.
